- I know some people who I think I can trust, some I won’t trust, and some I simply don’t know them. The key here is those people I don’t know. How do I evaluate them?
- Or rather, what is available for me to judge them when I really need to make a decision, say asking one to help me to do something?
- What’s available immediately without further research, for a product, is the packaging.
- And unfortunately, even though we are taught never to judge a book by its cover, but if you cannot see the content, you can either 1) pick randomly, or 2) defy your mom and judge a book by its cover.
- I realised that in many cases I encountered, the packaging does have a positive correlation to the content.
- It is not the most reliable measure and there are tons of exceptions, but when it is the only tool available, there is certain consistency. Many people and I tend to believe, if you are careless about A, you are likely to be careless about B too.
- Hence, if you are careless about the packaging, how can I trust you to take good care of the content?
- And if your packaging is quirky, maybe your content will be quirky too?
- And remember this is the only way I can judge a product until I know it better. And this includes a person too.
- I prefer to choose to trust myself and be wrong, rather than pick randomly and be wrong.
- And I believe most people behave in this way. Just observe how people pick fruits in the supermarket!
